By Shama Parveen
Chaulai bhaji or Amaranth comes in two varieties red and green, they are perfect to grow for both beginners and expert gardeners. It can make a stunning addition to your home garden or kitchen garden.
Amaranth or Chaulai saag can grow in any season throughout the year but it grows quickly on summer days.
To plant amaranth, you need to select a pot or grow bag that is at least 6-12 inches deep and 18-24 inches wide with good drainage holes.
Select a pot/grow bag and fill them with potting soil mix. Spread the amaranth seeds on it, then covered a thin layer of soil above the seeds.
Amaranth grows very fast in a warm climate and the best germination temperature is 18 to 24℃.
Use nitrogen-rich liquid fertilizer after seeds germination but excessive nitrogen can cause the plants to become leggy and less suitable for harvesting.
Amaranth can tolerate full sun as well as partial light, give at least 6 hours of direct sunlight for better growth.
Amaranth needs average water, give 1-inch water per week but the soil should be moist, not soggy.
Amaranth will be ready to harvest after 50-60 days from seed sowing. Within 90-120 days it reaches to mature and starts flowering.
