Green and Growing:

Essential Care Tips for Your Money Plant

By Shama Parveen

Money plants, also known as Devil's Ivy or Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), are popular houseplants known for their trailing vines and attractive foliage. Here are some care tips to help you keep your money plant healthy:

Light:

Place money plants near a window where they can receive filtered sunlight or in a well-lit room, as they thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

1

Watering:

Money plants prefer slightly moist soil but can tolerate short periods of drought. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering.

2

Soil:

Use well-draining potting soil to ensure adequate water drainage.  A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite or a commercial potting mix works well.

3

Temperature and Humidity:

Money plants prefer average room temperature between 65-85°F (18-29°C). They adapt well to average indoor humidity levels but appreciate slightly higher humidity.

4

Pruning and Training:

Money plants can develop long, trailing vines. Prune them regularly to encourage bushy growth, or train the vines to climb a trellis or support if desired.

5

Fertilization:

Money plants are relatively low-maintenance and can do well without frequent fertilization. However, you can apply an organic, or water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the growing season.

6

Propagation:

Money plants are easy to propagate. You can propagate them through stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy stem below a leaf node and place it in water or moist soil.

7

Cleaning:

Dust can accumulate on the leaves of money plants, reducing their ability to photosynthesize. Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth or use a soft brush to keep them clean and free from dust.

8

Toxicity:

Money plant is mildly toxic if ingested, it is recommended to wash your hands after handling the plant and keep them out of reach of children and pets.
