Steps for Repotting a Plant:

A Guide for Healthier Growth!

By Shama Parveen

If you need to report a plant, meaning you want to transfer it to a larger container or pot, here are the steps to follow:

Select a pot that is slightly larger than the current pot of the plant, with good drainage holes at the bottom.

1

Use a high-quality potting mix that is well-draining and nutrient-rich. You can also add perlite or sand to improve drainage.

2

Black Section Separator

Water the plant thoroughly before repotting. This will help loosen the soil around the roots and make it easier to remove the plant from the current pot.

3

Black Section Separator

Gently loosen the soil around the edges of the pot with a trowel or your fingers.

4

Black Section Separator

Turn the pot upside down, supporting the plant with one hand, and gently tap the bottom of the pot to release the plant.

5

Black Section Separator

Check the roots for any signs of damage or disease. Trim any dead or damaged roots with clean, sharp scissors.

6

Black Section Separator

Add a layer of potting mix to the bottom of the new pot, and then place the plant in the center of the pot.

7

Black Section Separator

Fill the pot with more potting mix, leaving about an inch of space between the top of the soil and the rim of the pot.

8

Water the plant thoroughly, making sure the water drains out of the bottom of the pot. Keep the soil moist for the first few weeks after repotting.

Once the plant has been repotted, place it in a suitable location where it will receive the appropriate amount of light, temperature, and humidity for its specific needs.
