Carnation or Dianthus caryophyllus is a short-lived perennial flowering plant that comes in various colors such as white, pink, and red. The plant produces bright flowers with a double layer of soft and silky petals. Carnation flowers are popular as cut flowers, and people like brewed tea made from dried flowers. You can also grow carnations from seeds indoors or outdoors in a sunny location.

Sow the carnation seeds in Spring (February–March) or Autumn (September–November). You can also start carnation seeds indoors in winter.

Carnation grows well both by direct sowing or seedling transplanting method.

You can use a pot or grow bag at least 9 to 15 inches wide and deep for planting carnations.

Carnation seeds can germinate in about 7 to 14 days at temperatures around 18-23°C.

Carnation plants are drought tolerant but usually, they need regular watering when flower buds are forming and during summers.

Carnation can grow in full sunlight or partial shade.

Dianthus or carnation blooms from late spring to summer (March to June). But the fact is that most carnations do not bloom in their first year, they produce flowers in the second year.
